  1. Bronco,

I personally don't use chicken livers, however I do use clams when I fish for stripers and at times this bait compares to jello. Very hard to hold on a hook but a dynamite bait nontheless. Anglers here have solved this problem by wrapping the bait in a small piece of pantyhose or stocking and tying this onto the hook. This little trick works really well at keeping an otherwise crumbling or runny bait together. Tight lines!

  2. If, it is absolutely necessary to use chicken liver as a bait, you might try wrapping it in a small piece of panty hose material, before baiting your hook with it

  3. Take your chicken livers and salt them heavily overnight with garlic salt so they harden up a bit,  you will find that they hold the hook better!

  4. after you put it on the hook tie it on with some thread, or use a treble(3prong) hook, they will stay on better.

  5. I`ve answered this question before go to your nearest sports shop or sporting goods store, cabela`s ,or bass pro.

to answer your question reasonably what would work the best to hols the chicken liver on your hook without changing your hook. a 2 1/2 square piece of spawn tie mesh the kind you can get at walmart or any well equip ed bait shop or sporting goods store.wrap the mesh over the hook and bait.

oh by the way this can be used on any bait.

then simply wrap the whole thing above the hook with thread and tie off.cheap, easy, simple ,secure,  and the best part more attraction because you can find this comes in a rainbow of colors.

  6. You can soak the liver in strong salt water, and that should toughen up the skin enough to help keep it on the hook. Another method is to tie a piece of old pantyhose over the bait to hold it in place.

  7. I read somewhere to drain all the fluid out of the container, then add salt or brown sugar and leave em over night in the fridge, should thicken em up.  Also when using them i like to have them in a cooler, the colder they are the thicker they are, when its like 95 degrees outside and they're sitting in the sun they aren't going to stay on your hook.  also it might be in how your casting, you have to gently LOB chicken livers, don't cast it like your'e throwing a crankbait, personally i use treble hooks, thread the liver as best i can onto the hook, and then lob the bait, when fishing you usually don't have to cast as far as some people think, I've had the best luck flathead fishing with casts about 10-15 ft. off the bank. good luck
