Hi after watching jamie's foul dinners my family are going to buy free range eggs and we want to adopt a chicken from a egg laying house, chicken slaughter, or a place where chickens are farmed in cruel conditions. (or the RSPCA if we can't get them from there)

We have wanted to get a chicken fort ages and everything is planed and we have enough space.

We live in Allambie which is in Sydney which is in NSW which is in Australia where is the closest place that we can adopt?

Oh yeah what are some good chicken names?

  1. I believe that in NSW it is The Animal Welfare League (www.animalwelfareleague.org.au) who can co-ordinate that for you.

Be careful though because if you take an ex-battery hen they do not know how to peck orscratch for food. Thus if you get a number of those chickens and put them in your chook house it is quite likely they will starve. You must also get chickens who were bred free range and out them together. The battery chickens will watch the others and very quickly learn what they have to do.

Make sure that your hen house is well secured from foxes as I know Allambie and foxes and feral cats will raid your chickens if you don't make it very secure.

Hope you get lots of eggs!

    Oh Forgot about names!

Esmerelda is a good one for a chicken. I have also had Charlotte, Bessie, Jessie and Nell. Old fashioned names are good for chooks as they are an old fashioned sort of thing aren't they?

  2. chester /udie

  3. I think Sebastian Beauregard would a fine chicken make!

  4. Good onya for deciding to adopt chickens.

    Welcome!

I read an article in t Sun-Herald about it

Just a point tho: make sure the 'free-range'

eggs are genuinely certified. One may think

that any sticker certifies, but this isn't the truth.

    As for a name, would

    Christopher or Eva do?

  5. I once saw a fancy rooster who had feathers covering his legs and feet.  His name was "Mr. Pants".

As for a chicken how about "Cluckers".
