Chie Arimura widens her lead by two strokes at HSBC Women’s champions in the second round
Japanese golfer, Chie Arimura, maintains her lead at the US $1.4 million HSBC Women’s champions held at Tanah Merah Golf and Country Club in Singapore. The 23-year-old golfer carded six under par 66 on the second day to post a total aggregate of 10 under par 134 for the first two rounds. She widened her lead by two strokes over Karrie Webb of Australia.
The world number 19 golfer Arimura recovered with an eagle at the par-five 5th hole after scoring bogeys twice in the first three holes. The Six time Japanese Ladies Professional Golfers’ Association (LPGA) winner holds a healthy chance of winning her first LPGA title outside Japan after keeping the lead for the first two days. "Two more days to go," Arimura said. "I need to control my rhythm. I should not play too fast when I am not playing well. Today was a perfect example; I had a rough start, but I controlled myself so it got better in the end”, Arimura added, "Whenever I had doubt during today's play, I reminded myself I should be confident.''
Seven times major winner, Karrie Webb of Australia finished the second day at the second spot on the leader board after posting the day’s best round of six under par 66. Webb was outstanding the entire day despite a few blemishes. She was able to score five birdies and an eagle on the par-five 9th. The Hall of Famer, currently ranked 13 at the Rolex World Golf rankings for women, was satisfied with her performance especially putting. "I feel great about it. You know, fairly solid round. I putted really well today," Webb said. "I didn't probably hit it as consistently well as I did yesterday, but I didn't really make any bad swings."
The third spot at the leader board is held by world number four, Sun Young Yoo of South Korea, after carding four under par 68. Golfing phenom, Yani Tseng of Taiwan, looks far from her goal of winning her fourth tournament in a row. Tseng shared the eighth spot with Morgan Pressel of the United States with two under par 142 after posting even par 72 in the second round. However, she still feels confident she can win in this course. She believes that the margin of eight strokes for the win is achievable.
The defending champion, Ai Miyazato of Japan, shared the 12th spot with eight golfers after posting two under par 70 on the second day. She carded a total aggregate of even par 144 after the first two rounds.
Only eleven players will tee-off for the third round tomorrow with their scores below par.
