Chief Executive Yorkshire County Stewart Regan to take up CEO’s role at Scottish football
The Chief Executive of Yorkshire, Stewart Regan as decided to leave the county to join Scottish Football Association (SFA) as the Chief Executive Officer.
In 2006, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stewart-c91370 Regan took over as Chief Executive of one of the most famous cricket clubs in the world, the Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Regan joined the club with an aim of putting the club back to the peak of county cricket where it belongs. Within two years, Regan helped the club steer back into profits. Due to his efforts, the redevelopment of the famous Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground is under process in collaboration with Leeds Met.
As Regan is about to leave, the county is facing severe financial constraints due to the expensive revamping of the Headingley Cricket ground and the poor turnout of spectators for the neutral test match between Australia and Pakistan last week. The match was part of Pakistan’s home series against the Kangaroos that was staged at neutral English grounds due to the plunging law and order situation in Pakistan.
Despite the off the field issues, the Yorkshire team has been performing remarkably well on the field during the ongoing season. Yorkshire is leading the Clydesdales Bank 40 competition and the T20 County Championship as well.
Regan said that it has been a great honour and privilege for him to be the chief executive of Yorkshire. The leaving CEO said that he has really enjoyed his time with the club and feels proud when he looks back at the progress that the club made – both on and off the field - during his tenure as chief executive. Regan said that the club in many ways has a great establishment backed by ardent supporters.
The departing chief executive of the club was hopeful that this season, the Yorkshire team would win some silverware to top it off. Talking about the financial crisis that Yorkshire is currently facing, Regan said there is no doubt the club has experienced cash-flow problems over the past few months, however he hinted about some fantastic financial supporters who always backed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 financially and would definitely help the club survive and grow again. One big name that Regan mentioned for the financial assistance was the Chairman of Yorkshire, Colin Graves.
The chairman revealed that the club does not have any intentions of seeking a replacement for Regan on an immediate basis. He said that Yorkshire’s management will assess the situation of the club from next year before bringing in somebody as Regan’s replacement. Colin said that the club is feeling sorry as Stewart is leaving after serving for almost four years. However, the position that has been offered to Regan is a great opportunity and everybody fully understands his decision of leaving the club.
Replying to a question regarding the difficult financial future of Yorkshire, Colin said that much has been said about the cash-flow crisis following the neutral test between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 which was staged at Headingley last week. He assured that it is a temporary blip and the club would soon recover and continue to build for the future as the financial partners are continuously supporting Yorkshire.
The Yorkshire chairman also revealed about his intentions of taking over the role of executive chairman of the club for the next six months after Regan’s departure and the proper hierarchy of the club would be decided afterwards.
"I have told my board colleagues that I intend to take the role of executive chairman for a period of at least six months after Stewart's departure after which we will then decide on the most appropriate structure to manage the club going forward."
