Chief of Williams’ Adam Parr says it is too late to accommodate Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
According to Adam Parr, the chief executive officer of Team Williams, accommodating a Bahrain Grand Prix in the 2011 Formula 1 season is not possible anymore as it is too late.
Six races have been completed up until now in the ongoing season and the seventh grand prix is scheduled to take place in Canada this weekend, June 12, 2011.
“It's not about whether the race goes ahead, it's about whether we change the calendar at this stage of the season and that's what we've written about it,” Parr told the media.
With 13 races left in the 2011 Formula 1 season, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) recently announced that the Bahrain Grand Prix is going to take place in October 2011 keeping in mind that the race was initially supposed to take place as the
opening race of the season. Since the country is going through a political crisis, the event had to be postponed but the FIA claimed that there was a possibility of rescheduling the race for a further date in 2011.
The Bahrain Grand Prix replaced the Indian Grand Prix as a result and it is believed that the Indian race is now going to take place in mid-December.
However, since Bernie Ecclestone, the chief of Formula 1 Management and an active supporter of the Bahrain Grand Prix, has stated that holding the event in 2011 is not possible anymore, it seems that the chances of a grand prix in the Kingdom this year are
bleak.
Parr believes that making such changes in the Formula 1 calendar in the middle of a season is not possible.
“The issue that we're concerned about is that fans, sponsors, teams, have made logistic arrangements to be in India for a particular weekend, the 30th of October, and we've been presented with a calendar where it's on December 11,” he said.
It is believed that the FIA is going to make a major announcement about this matter very soon as most of the people involved in the sport including the teams are not satisfied with this decision.
