Chiefs’ Sam Cane excited to make debut against Richie McCaw - Super Rugby update
Chiefs’ 21-year-old Sam Cane, who is making his Super Rugby debut against the Crusaders today on 21st May, is excited to face All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw in his very first match. The Chiefs are taking on the Crusaders in their 13th
match of the Super Rugby in Napier. The Crusaders are the clear favourites to win as they are occupying the fourth overall place on the points table.
The young flanker, Cane, has been given the chance to play against the second best side of New Zealand and he feels honoured. Sam Cane had played the Bay of Plenty ITM Cup last year but he was restricted to the benches midway due to an ankle injury. He was
along with the Chiefs since the start of this season but an old injury kept him away from the field. He will be in action today after the absence of almost eight months.
Talking to media today morning, Cane expressed his exuberance to make his Super Rugby debut against McCaw. He said, “Up against Richie McCaw in my first outing. It doesn't get much bigger than that. Absolutely, he's the best in the world. It's hard not to
think about it, it's always in the back of my mind, but I've got to look at it as an opportunity."
Meanwhile, Cane also admitted that it would be big challenge for him to play against such a legendary player. The Chiefs are struggling with their form and they had a miserable first half of the season. They have not done anything remarkable so far in the
ongoing Super Rugby championship and have won just five games after twelve outgoings.
He said that his side would try its level best to produce encouraging results in today’s fixture. He further said that coaches were working hard to overcome the mistakes and their defence has been improved. Cane stated, "Defences are getting better and better
organised. It's a formula you have to adhere to against very good defensive teams."
The match will start tonight in New Zealand as the two sides take the field to fight for dominance.
