Chiefs newly appointed Dave Rennie rules out surgery on star fly half Aaron Cruden - Rugby
Hamilton based New Zealand professional Rugby Union outfit, Chiefs, newly appointed head coach, Dave Rennie, has ruled out surgery on his pivotal fly half Aaron Cruden. He made these comments
on Saturday, October 29. The news has strengthened the Chiefs squad for their 2012 Super Rugby Season’s campaign.
The coach added, “"It will be about eight to nine weeks before he's back to full health, so that's pretty good.”
New Zealand professional Rugby Union player, Cruden sustained an injury during All Blacks 2011 Rugby World Cup final against France which was played on Sunday, October 23 at Eden Park, Auckland.
He sustained a knee injury during the first-half of the game.
Providing updates on Cruden, All Backs doctor Deb Robinson said, “Aaron saw a specialist in Auckland today who confirmed that he won't require surgery.” He added that Cruden’s knee will remained
braced for thr next three to four weeks, which will be followed by his light training in following weeks.
Robinson has expressed his confidence that Cruden will recover fully from the knee injury, at the start of Chiefs’ 2012 Super Rugby campaign. Chiefs will start their campaign against Highlanders
in a home game on February 25, 2012.
The news has boosted the Chiefs pre-season preparations, particularly considering the massive flight of key players at the end of the 2011 Super XV rugby tournament. For their next season campaign,
Chiefs have signed 27 members of their final 28-man squad.
At the end of the last season, 16 of Chiefs players left them to continue their career elsewhere. This includes All Blacks internationals like Mils Muliaina, Mike Delany, Aled de Malmanche,
Tana Umaga, Isaac Ross, Taniela Moa, and Sitiveni Sivivatu.
In addition to this, Chiefs are in talks with All Blacks international centre, Sonny Bill Williams (SBW), for a possible switch to the club. His inclusion will further strengthen the Chiefs
midfield. Rennie further added, “If he (SBW) goes overseas or goes to the Blues, we've got someone else in mind.”
Besides this, former All Blacks defence and counter attack coach, Wayne Smith will also be joining the Chiefs for their next season’s campaign.
