Chiefs secure 10-3 victory over Bears as Hanie's struggle continues – NFL Recap
Chicago Bears seem to have lost their soul with the loss of regular quarterback Jay Cutler as struggling Kansas City Chiefs ran out as 10-3 victory at the Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
The result would have seemed impossible a few weeks ago when Cutler was fit and Bears were on a five game winning run but since the injury replacement Caleb Hanie has struggled to impress with Bears losing both games where Hanie
was a starter.
Hanie ended the game with 133 yards and completing just 11 out of 24 attempted passes with no touchdowns. The quarterback also threw three interceptions and was sacked seven times during the match as he continues to blow his opportunity
for regular game time.
The 10-3 loss was just the tip of the iceberg for Bears however, as star running back Matt Forte had to leave the field with a knee injury. The running back was hit by Chiefs Line backer Derrick Johnson on the knee during a run
in the first quarter and a long term layoff will be a significant blow to Bears playoff hopes as Forte like Cutler is a critical cog in Bears offensive line-up.
"It's not a good feeling when you see your star tailback go down with a knee injury," Coach Lovie Smith said. "Part of the game. We'll just keep our fingers crossed and hopefully it's not that serious."
Kyle Orton the waived of Broncos quarterback and ex Bear player started the game for Kansas City but had to go off early with a hand injury following a hit from Major Wright. Orton was replaced by Tyler Palko who provided a match
winning performance covering 157 passing yards as he completed 17 out of 30 passes and a touchdown and helping his team snap a four game losing streak.
"You have to earn the right to put your hands underneath center," Palko said. "If that's a week-by-week basis, then that's how it's going to be. I'm not the coach, and I don't handle those decisions."
"I really thought Tyler did a great job today," Orton said. "He's been through a lot. It's great to see a guy get his chance and take advantage of it."
Chicago Bears took the lead in the second quarter after a scoreless first period scoring their only points of the game with Robbie Gould sending a 32 yard field goal for the first points of the game. Tyler Palko got his sides first
points with a 38-yard touchdown pass to Dexter McCluster right at the death to make it 7-3.
The game was sealed with Chiefs scoring a third quarter field goal at 6:16 through Ryan Succop from 21 yards to make 10-3 and send Chicago Bears to their second straight loss.
