Chievo Verona vs. Sassuolo – Full Time Report – Coppa Italia

The two Italian sides Chievo Verona and Sassuolo faced each other as Chievo became the ones to entertain Sassuolo at their home ground Bentegodi. The home side were ready to face a competitive opposition as Sassuolo are a second tire team of the Italian League
while Chievo are a first tire team. The home side was expected to do wonders as they were ready to take advantage of the home crowd and home ground.
The match was very much simple and easy for the home team as they started to dominate the game from the time the referee blew the whistle. The match was played very fairly as both of the sides did not concede a single yellow or a red card and no action took
place in terms of “fouls committed;” therefore, the referee had little to do.
The first half looked to be very tough for the visitors as Chievo were the ones with the ball and they kept on moving it around in their opposition’s danger zone. 60% of the possession was kept by the home side as they kept on moving around the 18 yard box
of Sassuolo and kept on trying their luck. During the first 15 minutes of the game, almost 80% of the ball remained with the home team as the visitors were simply chasing left shadows.
The home side lost the last game at their home when they faced the Italian side Roma. Even though they did suffer a loss, they only managed to concede a single goal from such a strong opponent. They also lost a game to AC Milan as well, but the mid-table
Chievo can never be under estimated, especially against a team that is not in the first tire of the Italian Serie A.
Chievo played their first choice goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino and he was helped by Gennaro Sardo, Davide Mandelli, Bojan Jokic and Nicholas Frey at the back. The coach Stefano Pioli decided to play a traditional 4-4-2 and Simone Bentivoglio along with Luciano,
Luca Rigoni and Roberto Guana were the ones holding up the midfield as the team dominated in the midfield. Davide Moscardelli was being helped by Gadji Tallo up front as there were only two strikers for the team to help the Italian side score goals.
For the visitors, their coach Angelo Gregucci decided to play a 5-4-1 as the team took its position on the field. The goal stopper Walter Bressan was helped by Mauro Minelli, Angelo Rea, Marco Picciono, Paolo Bianco and Tiziano Polenghi at the back. The
midfield was taken over by Carl Valeri, Mario Titone, Luigi Riccio and Michele Troiano and they were to assist the soul striker of the club, Salvatore Bruno who is the best striker that they have.
During the first half, the home side could not really find a way past the opposition’s defensive walls but then right before the 45th minute mark, in the 42nd minute, the midfielder Luciano won the team a free kick outside the 18 yard box. The free kick
was delivered inch perfect and it was defender Davide Mandelli who headed the ball into the net to give his team the one goal lead that they deserved.
The match was then sealed off by the team in the second half, even though the visitors did not really let the match end early. Sassuolo kept on relying on counter attacks and it was pretty much working as their only striker would try to shoot the ball into
the net from long distance. However, the match came to an end during the 82nd minute when the home side’s striker Davide Moscardelli shot the ball from right outside the 18 yard box and won it for his team.
The match ended 2-0 for the home side Chievo who were expected to win. The team’s performance was simply phenomenal as they kept most of the ball and took most of the shots on target.
