My poor Chi baby. She is clean, indoors, brushed daily she has some dandruff, oatmeal shampoo once a month, her paws are wiped off when she comes indoors from going out for a little walk, clean pillowslip on her bed daily. She gets Frontline and Heartgard. She has had this problem before but we never tracked the cause.

I will take her to the vet this week if something doesn't work to help her soon.

Any home remedy ideas in the meantime?

  1. It is probably an allergy.  Mine has the same problem during the Summer months.  He gets cortisone injections when it flares up and that usually takes care of it very quickly.  She does need to go to the vet, there isn't much you can do at home.  Although, I have found aloe vera gel for dogs help ease it a little bit.  Good luck!

  2. is it itchy?

if she scratches a lot she might have developed a staph infection (or something similar)

I would say this one is more likely, though, she could be allergic to something.. like an ingredient in her food, some air freshener or something in your house, maybe the laundry soap... or she may just have seasonal allergies like we do

  3. It can be a few things.. My dogs have the same problem, and they have mage. It can also be allergies. Try bathing her more often, or better yet, take her to the vet and get her a shampoo that will help with the itching,

  4. awwww, poor baby!! My poor baby girl has the same issue, except that it is EVERYWHERE on her :(.  It's an outdoor allergen that we haven't found out what yet.  we decided not to get testing for it because it's like $600 to take the test then another $350 for the first shots and then like $200 for each one after that.  But she's like 50 lbs, so it will be different for your baby.  Also there's a chance it might be a food allergy.  I give my baby a human dose of flaxseed oil daily in the capsule form.  My vet totally ok-d it before i did it.  Also human benadryl type antihistamines are GREAT!!! I use it for my baby when she itches.  Most likely your vet will prescribe something like Hydorxizine.  Good luck!!!!

  5. i think aloe vera gel would help with skin irritations..... my dogs going through the same thing right now with his tail.... he wont stop biting and nibbling on it. and theres a bruise on it that looks like it has dry blood.... it gets me worried.

  6. It sounds like an allergy to something in the environment.  Was the last time this happened around the same time of year?  If so, it's probably to a specific pollen or something else seasonally present.  If it doesn't seem to be tied to a specific season, it could be a household product that was used, like a cleaner.  Think about what you might have used this time that you also used last time she broke out in a rash but haven't used in between.  If you can't figure out the cause and remove it, your vet can recommend an allergy medication or do allergy testing to determine what the cause is.

  7. Sounds like your typical candida rash. I have several suggestions:

Topically... hit the health food store and pick up some Emu oil, either in liquid or salve. Your dog can eat this without it doing her any harm at all. You will want to put towels on the furniture, though.

Make sure your dog is on a hypo-allergenic lamb & rice formula without that "yeast protein" c**p in it. IAMS is one of the worst offenders.

Since it is a small dog, you can cook up a batch of brown rice with some chicken stock flavoring, and mix that with some lamb baby food each day.

Another method would be to take her good hypo-allergenic kibble, put it in an airtight container and drizzle some high quality cod liver oil on it and mix it up, then feed the dog exclusively from this stock. She will probably turn her nose up at it for a day or two, but then will eat it. This alone will clear up the skin and her fur will look wonderful.

  8. me friends dog has that too..

    its natural i think

take her to the doctor... they should give you some creme

  9. hey! i just had the same problem with my chihuahua. even though i have him on advantage he had gotten a bite under his armpit and he scratched it to the point that it had gotten really red. so i took him to the vet and he said it had gotten slightly infected and gave him a cortisone shot and i had to give him clavamox (antibiotics) twice a day for a week. now it has completely healed :) - i hope this helps!
