Chilaw Marians Cricket Club in command – 329 runs , Sri Lankan Premier League Tournament Tier A
Chilaw Marians Cricket Club scored 329 runs in their first innings against Ragama Cricket Club in the Sri Lankan Premier League Tournament Tier A. The match is being played from 2nd May to 4th May, 2011 at Moors Sports Club Ground,
Colombo.
Chilaw Marians Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bat with their openers Amal Athulathmudali and Mahela Udawatte, who gave an opening stand of 26 runs. Udawatte was bowled by Nilanka Premaratne on 14 runs, and Milinda Siriwardana came to the crease.
The second wicket contributed 37 runs as Janaka Gunaratne walked into bat and the pair took the score to 86 runs, Athulathmudali was playing an attacking knock but he was dismissed after adding 50 runs to his credit aided with two sixes and six fours.
Gunaratne was securing one end with composite scoring while the wickets kept on falling at the other end and they lost five wickets for 150 runs. He was the sixth batsman to return to the pavilion after scoring a useful 56 runs off 60 balls with three sixes
and 4 fours with the total at 172 runs.
Geeth Kumara was the next batsman, who consolidated the innings, with few partnerships available to him. He shared a 23-run association for the seventh wicket when Shaminda Eranga joined him and they crafted 214 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the
end of the first day.
The pair added 44 runs for the eighth wicket on 3rd May as Eranga was gone after scoring 29 runs and the eighth wicket fell at 239 runs. Kumara completed his fifty in the process and the ninth wicket was lost as Malinda Pushpakumara departed without
scoring.
Chinthaka Perera was the last batsman, who came in to face the music but he contributed a brave innings and added 81 runs for the 10th wicket. He thrashed 45 runs off 35 balls, which included four towering sixes and two fours.
Chilaw Marians Cricket Club was able to post 329 runs before they were all out in 65 overs. Kumara remained unbeaten on 82 runs off 103 balls with three sixes and five fours.
Premaratne and Malinga Bandara were the main wicket takers from Ragama Cricket Club with three wickets each. Madura Lakmal Perera and Rushan Jaleel took two wickets each.
Chilaw Marians Cricket Club has scored reasonably well in their first innings and they will try to gain a good lead in the first innings by restricting Ragama Cricket Club to a low score.
