The Premier League Tournament Tier A, Sri Lankan domestic First-Class match between Chilaw Marians Cricket Club and Ragama Cricket Club, ended in a draw. The match took place at Moors Sports Club Ground, Colombo from May 2 to May 4, 2011.
Mahela Udawatte, the Captain of Chilaw Marians Cricket Club did not declare his second innings even after accumulating a healthy score against the Ragama Cricket Club.
Chilaw Marians Cricket Club posted 329 runs in their first innings, Geeth Kumara was the top scorer with an unbeaten 82. Janaka Gunaratne and Amal Ahulathmudali contriburted 56 and 50 runs respectively while opening the innings.
Ragama Cricket Club bowlers Malinga Bandara and Nilanka Premaratne were the highest wicket takers with three wickets each while Madura Lakmal Perera and Rushan Jaleel chipped in with two each.
Indika de Saram was the only batsman from Ragama Cricket Club who showed resilience and smashed 102 runs off 122 balls with the help of three sixes and nine fours. The rest of the team was sent back to the pavilion at the total of 194 runs.
Malinda Pushpakumara was the most devastating bowler from the Chilaw Marians Cricket Club. He took seven wickets for 65 runs in 21 overs.
Chilaw Marians Cricket Club took a lead of 135 runs in the first inning. They lost two early wickets at 51 runs when Captain Mahela Udawatte and Gunaratne shared a 70-run partnership for the third wicket.
Udawatte lost his wicket after scoring 63 off 70 balls with the help of one six and 10 fours.
Lahiru Weragala joined in with Gunaratne and shared a 42-run partnership for the fourth wicket before Weragala went back after contributing 23 runs.
Gunaratne was the fifth batsman sent back to the pavilion after he scored 54 runs and the seventh wicket fell at the total of 185 runs.
Lasith Abeyratne held the innings together in the lower order, accumulating 62 runs for the eighth wicket and 65 runs for the ninth wicket. He remained unbeaten on 78 with five cracking sixes and three fours.
The whole Chilaw Marians Cricket Club was bowled out at 315 runs as they accumulated a 450-run lead altogether. They did not declare the innings to achieve any result and preferred batting practice.
Bandara was the star performer from Ragama Cricket Club by taking five wickets. Madura Lakmal Perera claimed four wickets while Rushan Jaleel took one.
Ragama Cricket Club had a disastrous start to their second inning when they lost both the openers at nine runs. Lahira Thirimanne and Indika then took charge of the situation and contributed with a 71-run partnership for the third wicket.
Thirimanne was declared leg before wicket off Geeth Kumara on 42 and the next man in, Duminda Perera followed him after adding 18 runs to the total.
The wickets kept on tumbling after that as the batsmen found it hard to stay at the crease. They had scored 136 runs and lost eight wickets in 46.4 overs when the play was called off because of bad weather.
Pushpakumara once again, was the highest wicket taker from Chilaw Marians Cricket Club with three wickets whereas Kumara and Gunaratne shared two wickets each.
Ragama Cricket Club escaped narrowly as the match was drawn.
