  1. You can claim Child Care Expenses (Day Care/Camp/Baby sitting)  as long as you get a receipt from the Day Care provider.

For Doctor payments it becomes part of your medical expenses and is subject to the same 3% of your income limit, before the excess is deductable.

  2. The old baby bonus programme went out about fifteen years ago and has since been replaced by the Child Tax Benefit and the Universal Child Care Benefit.

If you have a child in your care who is under the age of eighteen, and if you are not receiving these benefits, you must send an application to the Canada Revenue Agency. Go to the link below and print yourself a copy of form RC66. This is the application form. You must also file income tax returns each year (both you and your spouse, even if you have no income).

The Universal Child Care Benefit is $100 per month for each child under age 6, and started in July of 2006. The Child Tax Benefit is a variable benefit and is clawed back when your families Net Income (line 236) is higher than about $20,800.
