  1. Contact OFSTED or Sure start and they will give you all the details. There is a special Childminders course which is deliverd by your local FE college.

  2. once you are qualified the social work department will call at your home to check out all the areas for safety - fire guards, stair guards, plug covers etc and you would also need your Criminal Records Checked.

  3. Pre registration training

The national standards for childminding in England require that all childminders attend a pre-registration training course and a paediatric first-aid training course that are both recognised by Ofsted and their local authority.

Ideally these should be done before the childminder's registration is completed, but may be taken up to six months from the date on their registration certificate.

If you are living in Wales, you must complete DHC Unit 1, Introduction to Childcare Practice (Home-based), before you register as a childminder. New childminders in Wales can take ICP free of charge. For more information about becoming a childminder in Wales, download the leaflet How to Become a Registered Childminder in Wales or call NCMA's Cardiff office on 0845 880 1299.

Unit 1 of the Diploma in Home-based Childcare, Introduction to Childcare Practice (Home-based) (ICP), is the only accredited introductory course recognised by Ofsted, and many local authorities are offering ICP as their pre-registration course. Because ICP is the first unit of DHC, there is great scope for further childminder training.

If you are interested in offering DHC Unit 1, Introduction to Childcare Practice (Home-based) as a pre-registration training course, please contact NCMA's Childcare Workforce Development department on 0845 880 0044.

    Registered Childminders

For registered childminders, training is essential. All childminders must take an introductory course in home-based childcare and hold a paediatric first aid certificate as part of their registration. Many childminders and nannies choose to take the first unit of the Diploma in Home-based Childcare (DHC) as their introductory course. And childminders in Wales are offered this course free of charge as part of their registration.

Training can be done at a college or training centre or via distance learning from providers such as the National Extension College (NEC). Learning in this way can be beneficial for childminders - fitting in their training around their childcare commitments.

  4. contact Sure Start .

  5. You need atleast an NVQ 2 in childcare and education, you will need an up-to-date Disclosure form (police check) and a first aid certificate. Usually you have to attend a training course on childminding where they help u set up and give you a grant towards the childminding costs of books, toys, food, and all things u will need. You will also need things like a first aid kit, register, accident book etc. But all this gets explained on the course, the best way to get onto this course is through your local childrens information centre or through a civic centre. Good luck

  6. Go to www.ofsted.gov.uk

Or try contacting childminders in your area, I'm sure they'll be happy to talk to you.

I think you'll need a childcare qualification, experience with chidlren, your own house, first aid, safe guarding chidlren, health and hygiene, police check.

Your house wil need to be inspected to check it is safe, as long as there's and indoor and outdoor area, access to toilet it shouldnt matter about size!

  7. contact Ofsted, they will talk you throught the registration process, i have done it myself and i only had a normal three bed house at the time, first aid is a must, child protection can be helpful, but you don`t need any specific qualifications as far as i am aware or contact the NCMA the child minding association, they will help with things like insurances and tax etc, good luck.

  8. I think you need to have done a course in childcare! You need to have your first aid, being able to identify rashes etc!

Your house just needs to be big enough to accomodate the amount of children you will be looking after! I think if your on your own you can only look after 4!
