When I look at job vacancies for child care workers I've noticed that they say they want workers with P1, P2,P3 etc qualifications.....what does this mean? Can some one tell my what certificates determine whether you are a P1 or P3 or 4 worker?

I live in Australia so can only Australians answer in case it is different with other countries.

  1. Absolutley no idea as of what P1 - 3 means as it varies from state to state. As far as I am aware Queensland is the ONLY state that requires qualifications for employment and you must have a Certificate III in Children's Services to be an assistant, to be a Group Leader you need a minumum of a Diploma and to be a Director you need a minimum of an Associate Diploma. It also helps when you are going for a job in childcare to have a Senior First Aid and Resus Certificate. Hope this helps you somewhat

Oh by the way, it has been announced that the Federal government will be funding the Diploma from 2009 as well (save you about $4000) but I am still waiting to hear about the in's and out's of being eligible for funding

  2. my sister is working as a childcare worker and we are living in Australia.

my sister is doing a traineeship in a childcare center and she'll be receiving her certificate 3 soon.

most child care centres recommend a certificate 3 in order for u to work, however u can even do a diploma, so altogether it will take a maximum of 3 years.

you don't just have to go to tafe and study, you can work and learn at the same time.

good luck and i hope i helped

  3. 4 worker is a diploma in childrens services.
