"JIBLA, Yemen — One morning last month, Arwa Abdu Muhammad Ali walked out of her husband’s house here and ran to a local hospital, where she complained that he had been beating and sexually abusing her for eight months.

That alone would be surprising in Yemen, a deeply conservative Arab society where family disputes tend to be solved privately. What made it even more unusual was that Arwa was 9 years old".

Do you think that if every girl did this, there could be at last a solution to this cruel costume? Other thoughts?

  1. I have a problem with a parent who would give a 8-9 year old to be married to anyone.   They should be playing house not being a s*x object for a grown man.

  2. It boggles my mind, as a parent, that anyone could put their nine-year-old old child into a situation in which she was guaranteed to be raped and abused, even in the name of "family honor" or "culture."

They say everyone loves their children the same the whole world over, but when I read stories like this, I really start to wonder if that's true.

  3. Look at what Craig Keilburger (a young Canadian man) did for working children in third world countries. www.freethechildren.org.

People from across the sea can stand up to horrifying practices like this by getting the people's attention and their governement's attention.

  4. Yeah....you are correct.............

But this is not about the bad aspect of Child Marriage but this is about domestic violence....

I agree that these kind of evil things should be stopped

EDIT: how many of you think child marriages (over 16) are bad?

  5. Not only should more of them do it, they should do it together. If something of this magnitude is going to be changed, they need a united front.
