Question:

Child abuse and spousal abuse???

OK, let me first say what MY view on spanking is. I believe that if a child is doing something dangerous (running into the street, sticking something in a plug in) and will not stop then is is OK to swat them on the behind (only) with your hand (only) to get their attention and make them remember not to do this again.

My question is....So many people site the Bible when talking about spanking kids. It says if your "spare the rod and spoil the child" (I think people mistranslated this), so they think beating a child is OK. It says in the Bible that beating a naughty wife or stoning to death an unfaithful one is OK. So if they believe beating your wife is spousal abuse, then how is beating your child not??? Or do these same people believe that beating your wife is ok as well???

  1. There's a difference between discipline and abuse. You spank children because they are too young to be reasoned with and sometimes you really need to make a point. The spankings stop when a child can be talked to.

A man beating his wife is something else that's entirely despicable.

  2. I have a 2 year old and I live with my sister, she thinks I should spank him for every little thing, but like u I only believe a spanking is necessary if he is trying to hurt his self or someone else. I dont think people should go by what the bible says, honestly its alittle out dated in some parts, especially stoning to death an unfaithful wife. Beating a child is wrong, they are too innocent and they dont know any better. I live in TX and I know that here it is illegal to whip your children, especially with objects like switches. Some people learn from what they were taught from their own parents, and it is past down for generations, I'm sure some of those people have mental issues as well.
