Question:

Child care provider question?

My daughter needs a sitter twice a week, and I have someone in mind, A coworker of mine has a daughter going to college for education (3rd year) and who has a great record with babysitting and working with infants on up.

If things work out, what would be the going rate for something like that? She would be coming to my house from about 7:30 to 4:00 for two days per week. What do others do about payment? It's hard because I know her family so I want to make sure I'm very fair with payment.

  1. Just be up front and ask. Say in the real world she made $400 a week working a 9 to 5. Divide that by 5 and that's $80 a day. But in my opinion that's way too much. So to be fair you should just ask her how much she expects. If its out of your league then find someone else.

  2. The best thing to do would be to check with area day care centers and ask what their daily rate is for a child your daughters age.  If the going rate in your area for a day is $15 then give the girl $25 to cover her expense of coming to your house.  if you can not check with centers in your area then just ask the girl straight out what she feels would be a fair amount as you are not familiar with what the going rate is.

After seeing some of the amounts people pay I will never complain again.  Around here the going rate is $13 a day per child and I thought that was high.

  3. My sitter charges $105 for part time which is 20 hours or less a week.  So I think $100 a week is fair.

  4. well I pay $80 a week from 8:30am to 4:45pm, but then again one of my family members watches my son.  So just see what she says...

  5. I don't know where you are from, but here in Boston the rates are from 12.00 all the way to 20.00hr depending on experience and education. If its under the table I would give 80.00---100.00 per day. This is very fair and everyone is happy. Remember you are paying for high quality Childcare and if she is that good then its worth the money.Word of advice,Never go cheap on Childcare!!! You always get what you pay for.I am a full time Nanny myself (11yrs experience, with College education).I hope this helps.
