Child left home alone?

I am in texas and wondering at what age is a child legally allowed to be home alone??? I am wanting to go walking at night for about 30 min. I have a very mature 8 year old whom i know is fine home alone..but on a legal side what is the age?

its 13 yrs old????? i went on another website and it said the age limit in texas was at least 10 yrs. then i found a different website that said their is no law that states an age limit for staying home alone. so right now im confused can someone clear this up for me please???
