Question:

Child protective services came to my house?

Well, this is what happened. My 3 yr old down syndrome left the house while we were sleeping. She somehow managed to open the door and leave the house. Was seen by neighbors and police came over to my house. Because she is on medication, the case is being forwarded to child protective services. I want to know if any of you have any knowledge on this. Can you please help me to see how I can get myself off this problem. I already made changes in the house, but will they keep checking me? I was told by the investigator that it looks like an accident, but the case will still be open for about a month. Will they keep investigating us?

  1. It really just depends on your area. I know of some places that will thoroughly investigate and others that will come in look around, find out what happened and close the case. If there is an organization in your area for DS support contact them. They can maybe come in and check out the house to be sure it's safe. Also going to support groups will help.

  2. YES,,AND U WILL B LUCKY TO GET RID O F THEM WITHIN A YEAR,,IF I WERE YOU I WOULD MOVE TO ANOTHER STATE,,,BUT  I NO SOMETIMES THATS EASIER SAID THAN DONE,,JUST  TRY TO HANG IN THERE,,,PEACE

  3. It sounds like the cs worker understood that this was a one time occurrence.

They might do a follow-up visit to check that this has not reoccurred.

It sounds like they will close the case if nothing else happens.

I would buy one of those window locks that tapes to the door an sounds if opened.

I would put one on her bedroom door.

I would also put a new lock up high on the doors leading outside.

    Best wishes
