Question:

Child support backpayment?

is it possible for a child to collect backpayment for child support after they are 18? I know someone who's mother scheduled a mortgage payment to be taken out of his personal checking account before he was 18, causing it to overdraft every month until he was 18. Also, he enrolled in college at 16 and had Sallie Mae student loans he got at 16 as well, but had to quit college to get a full time job to help his mother pay bills, and now he owes for that too. I know someone who- at 23- got back payment for child support from one of their parents- got a $7000.00 check pretty much out of nowhere, just tracked them down and took them to court pretty much. Would it be possible for this boy to get child support back payment, even though he is now 22, because there were circumstances before he was 18 which caused him to go into debt- which wouldn't have happened if he was receiving child support?

  1. Being poor and not receiving the child support due a mom does not give that mom the right to commit fraud and run that sort of debt up.  At 16 she had to co-sign everything so she's responsible and I'm sure she's the one that signed those checks so he needs to get a lawyer to dismiss that debt, it isn't his.
