Child tax credits in england?

they received the forms on the 26th and i have phoned them today and they have verified my bank details just incase, but what im asking is do they ask you to send off your babies birth certificate? i provided them with my babys child benefit number but they said on the phone that need his birth certificate and when i receive what they k for to send it straight off?i am confused why they need this and how long the claim will take once they have it,they have said there is nothin else wrong with it? sorry for asking just my baby is 9 weeks old now. also i was quoted roughly 60£ a week when i rang for the forms, is this close to what they will pay?x*x

  1. They may require the birth certificate to prevent fraud.

    People have been known to claim child tax credits when they are not entitled to it.

    I don't remember having to send my daughter's birth certificate in when I claimed for her but that was over 2 years ago now so it had probably changed.

    As for how much it depends on your circumstances.

    I got about £55 a week when my daughter was a baby which was then the max that you could get. But I only had a yearly income of about £4000 and was classed as a single mum.

    It goes down by about £10 a week when they reach the age of 1 year

    After ALL the information that they needed had benn received it took about 4 weeks for my payements to be sorted out, but I was back payed from my daughter's birth so I had quite a lump sum.

    About 3 weeks after I had started to receive my tax credits I got my free milk tokens
