Question:

Child visitation question? ?

I am in the middle of a visitation battle with my soon to be ex-wife. She believes that I should always pick up our child at her place or at the daycare in her town. I have offered and requested daycare be provided at a neutral place in between. We both agreed our child needs a more stimulating environment and to look for a new place. In California, what is a reasonable schedule for visitation for a two year old when parent live 45 minutes away? Should daycare be in the middle or in one parents work town? Please advise. Thank you.

  1. The child should be very close to one parent at least in order for your child to be safe. It sounds fair what you are saying, but that's only fair to you and your ex, not your child.

  2. I think that the daycare should be closest to the person who has to take the child most often. Sorry that you have a long ride to get your baby, but life becomes more difficult for us at the end of loving relationships, huh? Well, I think the daycare location should be convenient to the person who has to pick up/drop off most often.

  3. Who has the child most m-f? Daycare should be close to that job. If you split all time 50-50, day care should be half-way.

  4. close to one parent in case of emergency.. sometimes in the middle might be too far away if on parent is not available... who has a more open schedule should get the luxary of having the daycare next to there place so if they are in daycare and something happens the odds of a parent coming fast are much better..

  5. As one who has dealt with my child being in daycare, I really think the child should be closest to one of the parents, but not in the middle.. my daughter is within a 5 minute walk of my work.  There have been times where within 10 minutes, she went from a normal temp to 103.. and they had to call, or once when she jumped out of a wagon onto her head and started showing signs of concussion.. there was even once when she got severe sudden diarrhea (allergic reaction to a food at school) and soiled all her clothes in the 30 minutes it took to take off work, pack up, and get to her..

it's important for one parent to be close in the event of a medical emergency or in case the child needs something quick.
