  1. All children as they grow from the helpless baby to the independent child have the same basic needs for survival.

    They need:

    - Food and drink

    - Clothing and warmth

    - Shelter and protection

    - Fresh air and sunlight

    - Exercise and rest

    - Prevention of accident and disease

    - Training and guidance in routines and skills for life

The child carer, with the parents, must give these necessities to the children they care for as well as:

    - Love and affection

    - Individual care and respect

    - Security with a warm personal relationship in a warm, clean environment, whilst being given the opportunity to learn (which means it is alright to make mistakes).

At 3 months his/her curiosity is more developed and  physical skills are developing alongside  growth.

At approx. 3 months baby uses:

Gross Motor skills in the following ways:

    - Lays on his back with head in a straight line

    - With his face down baby lifts his head and chest and supports himself on forearms

    - When baby is held, he sits with his back straight

    - Kicks vigorously, with legs together or alternating up and down

    - Waves arms in no particular rhythm

    Fine Motor skills by being:

    - Visually alert especially to the human face

    - Plays with his hands and fingers across his chest

The Sensory organs are developing and allow baby to:

    - Turn eyes to a sound or voice

    - Focus his eyes

    - Respond to his own name.

You would meet all needs of the baby in a childmonding environment by:

      - Responding when the baby cries, this is how they learn to trust you.

    - Play with the child and talk to them.

    - Make sure he/she feels safe and secure.

    - Let the child sleep –don’t wake the child because you want to.

    - Have a routine

    - Give the child plenty of love.

    - Emotional care and physical affection makes a baby’s body and mind grow.

    - Stimulating newborn’s senses helps the baby to grow and develop.

    - A nurturing and soothing environment

    - Giving the children the space to explore.
