Childhood Obesity. Your Child. ?

I am in my last year of high school and am currently completely a special studies assignment for my Early Childhood studies class.

The assignment is worth 30% and requires an investigation with a survey.

My special studies is on childhood obesity focusing on children 0 to 6 years of age. It would be very helpful if any parents or guardians of overweight children

could complete this survey or answer as many questions as possible.

It is quite difficult for me to communicate with parents of obese children In person.. Obviously because of the sensitive and personal nature of the topic and if anyone

could give up a few minutes and answer these questions it would be much appreciated.

Also if you yourself were obese as a child or overweight it would be great if you too could answer this survey just by applying the questions to yourself.

note: I will delete the survey after a week and any responses to the questionnaire will be treated confidentially. Thank you.

  1. Still obese @ 5'8 and 225

    I was the child

since age 2 off height and weight growth chart

    Dads side has a history

Diet- I was given Adult portions, was given the left overs because mom didnt want to put it away, lack of exercise- wasnt allowed outside because we had 6 acres of land and mom didnt want to lose us

Didnt make healthy choices for us (TWO hot dogs at age six? give me a break- and thats MY memory- confirmed by other relatives)

Fast food was always a reward for behaving well

Wasnt important in familys lifestyle until I hit age 21... it is in mine now (Im trying.... down 69lbs)

Many health professionals have suggested I lose weight

Emotionally and Socially I have issues around the weigh

No real frustration.... not until I tried higher intensity workouts and realized how fat I was

Yes I have low self esteem... Have had it since I was 8

I was bullied and still at 26 years old- have people make fun of me

I approached them at various ages, 13 being the earliest and was told if I wanted to lose weight then I have the willpower to say no to bad food

Lets be honest- family wouldnt change the past- they did they best that they could at the time... Now the responsibility of their shortcomings are my own
