Childminding.?

Im currently working in a nursery school, but hoping to start a family, could anyone advise me on how to become a childminder. Detailed information would be great, many thanks!

  1. You need to contact your local social services, they will put you in touch with the relevant departments. You need to ensure that your home is suitable as well. If you are starting a family then its likely that you will be wanting to do this anyway. Things like ensuring you have covers for plug sockets and a stair guard and fire guard are good for starters, but you will be told what the requirements are. Good luck.


  2. www.ncma.org.uk-  national childminding network has allsorts about how to get started etc, sure start usually have some good stuff. ofsted's website has info for childminders regarding the national standards and how they need to be achieved.

    if u wanna do it then ofsted, need to be informed so they can carry out all the checks to basically see if your suitable, and your home is safe, they will also decide how many children u can look after, once everythings done u can become a registered childminder, good luck

    see link above - it looks really useful.  it used to be social services that dealt with childminders but it's now covered by ofsted.  the link is a useful guide as to what is expected, the checks they carry out etc.
