I am going to become a childminder, i was just wondering what advice anyone else who has done this? Also, with regard to ofsted inspections - do they just check premises to see they are safe, or would you have to buy all of the toys etc before the inspection? What toys would you advise to get for children aged 12-36 months?

  1. Check with your local council who will have all the answers you need.Ofsted will also want to see some kind of planning you have for set activities for the children so you will need to have most of the toys & paints etc in already.

  2. Good luck with this!

If you can you should go to an NCT Nearly new sale and pick up some toys. They have some good bargains and they are always in good condition. Check out NCT website for the nearest one.

  3. my mum is a registered childminder and has been for the past 21 years now recently she has been on new courses and she was saying how much its changing she has ofsted come i think its every 3 or 4 year  and they rip you house to pieces if its not the way they expect it you also have to pay for the privalge my mum has a huge toy cupboard for the children you have to make sure you have toys for equal opportunities shes looked after children from 3 months -12 years

  4. Both premises and regular visitors have to be checked, example if your father visits most days during child minding hours he will have to be police checked, the best toys are the mother care or early learning they have all been tested for safety before they are sold.
