Children's Book Title?

There was this book my uncle bought me when I was a little girl. I guess around 1997 give or take a few years. It started off with a boy in his kitchen eating an egg or something and the grandma told him something about the egg shells. And then she went into this story about sea witches or something. And then at the end she repeats the moral....Does anyone know what this book is?
