Question:

Children's Valentine Party without Gluten?

I lead a small playgroup for preschoolers. One of the children has a very serious allergy to gluten. The facility at which I lead the group typically does not allow for food during this group time because of allergies and choking hazzards (ages are 0-5 yrs). Is there a safe and healthy alternative type of snack or treat that I can incorporate that also doesn't include gluten??

  1. I had a child in my pre-k class needing gluten free foods. His mom brought things that he ate during snack time or during our special events.

  2. Fruit, is safe for a gluten allergy.  You could get watermelon and take a cookie cutter as a mold, and cut it out in heart shapes.  Or any other fruit, as they are all gluten free.  There are also gluten free cookies and stuff, but they tend to be expensive and still have sugar in them.

  3. this site i found is for a valentines day party in the classroom with recipies  for people who have allergies.

***PUT CUT UP STRAWBERRIES ON TOP LIKE THE ONE PERSON SAID THEY ARE THE RIGHT COLOR AND SHAPE***

  4. Most children with gluten problems can have jello so you could make heart shaped jello- jigglers or try these crispy treats and cut them into heart shapes..Just check the cocoa pebble box..Or check the organic isles for gluten free cake mixes..

    Cocoa coconut Crispy Treats

    40 marshmallows

    1/4 c. butter or margarine

6 c. Post Cocoa Pebbles (gluten-free as of today . . . though things change sometimes)

1/2 c. (or more) flaked coconut

Ask the mother what she makes for the child maybe she could make something just so you don't find yourself in a sticky allergy situation.

  5. You can get gluten free cakes biscuits etc but why not give the children strawberries right shape colour and no nasty additives
