Children's ring games?

Question

Anyone have any nursery ideas for ring games? Such as 'Here we go round the mulberry bush', 'Ring o Roses', 'Looby Lou'. Any suggestions or websites would be very much appreciated.

hot potato -- kids pass a ball or some small item while music plays  - when the music stops, the kid holding the item is out.  Keep going until 1 kid is left.  Could also play musical chairs.

a game called duck duck goose you all sit in a circle and one person goes around the outside tapping everyones head on the way saying duck when they say goose that person has to run in opposite direction and race back to that spot loser walks round tapping heads

Duck, duck, goose is great. Brown Girl in the Ring - sing the song and the child/children do the actions. POP is another - all in a circle - 2 are chosen to squat in the middle with arms folded across their chest - you say POP and they bounce towards eachother - last one on their feet stays and chooses another to pop with. Hokey Pokey, - I gave up thinking and did a search -

The farmer is in his den.    

There was a dog lay on the ground and BINGO was his name oh B   I  N  G  O   B  I  N  G  O B  I  N  G  O

and BINGO was his name oh. A child stands in the middle while the other children walk round singing the song. Then the child goes round the circle pointing to the children spelling out bingo and the one they reach at O goes in the middle.

This little puffin book is great for songs and ring games for all occasions.

Wonderball

The kids pass a ball around a circle singing:

"The wonderball goes round and round

you must not let it touch the ground

for if you do, I'm telling you

out goes Y-O-U"  (make up your own tune)

To make it not be "sad" when someone goes out, I used this game as a transition so the kids who are out are actually moving to another activity, or part of the daily schedule etc.

This is not actually a ring game but a indoor group game. It is Doggy Doggy Where's Your Bone. One child sits in a chair with their back to the circle of children. A "bone" (any small toy) is placed under their chair. The teacher signals ,without speaking, for 1 child to take the bone and hide it behind their back. Each child in the group puts their hand behind their own back. The group sings,  "doggy doggy where's your bone, somebody took it now it's gone.

The child in the chair turns around and tries to guess which child is holding the bone. They have 3 quesses. If they guess right, the child who had the bone is the new "Doggy" ie. the person in the chair. If they don't guess right then the teacher chooses someone who hasn't had a turn.

One other game I like to play is "My Masterpiece". In My Masterpiece each child becomes an artist. All the children sit in a circle. Two children are chosen to come to the middle. One child is the artist and one child is the clay. The artist molds the other child into a piece of art. I demonstrate how to gently move another person's arm or leg. I show how to "sculpt" a shape out of that child's body. When the artist is done they say, "look at my Masterpiece". The other children clap. Then the child who was the "clay" becomes the "artist" and chooses a new child to be the clay.
