If a child can not read or write due to severe dyslexia can they still play sports without all passing grades?

No matter how hard he tries he still does not have all passing grades but he really wants to play football.

  1. he needs to be tested  graded based on his IEP-----if that is beign done and he is still failing-than he can be excluded from sports if passing grades is a rule

  2. Does this young man have an IEP or is he just in general education with dyslexia classes?  If he has an IEP, then call a meeting to discuss your concerns.  The committee can discuss and decide what your young man can be graded on due to his disability.  So, if he is in general education without special education support, then he most likely cannot play football without passing.  If he does have special ed support, then the IEP committee can consider making changes to his IEP so he can play football without being penalized for having severe dyslexia.

  3. my daughter was in 4th grade last year and has dyslexia. she has an IEP and she  was in soccer,2 plays and chorus . I always tell my kids there is no disability you cant  get past in some sort of way. her brother is 15 and Autistic. her other siblings 1 is deaf in 1 ear 1 is blind in 1 eye. I never heard of kids having to have passing grades to be in sports anyways. your child would benefit greatly with his  self esteem if he played in sports that he loved.

  4. It's probably going to depend on the individual school's policy on the grades you need to pass.

That said it could be argued that if the child has a diagnosed learning disability which the school is aware of which affects their ability to get passing grades in all subjects that it is discrimination.

If the child has an IEP and is meeting the goals set for him/her for that year or is making satisfactory progress towards them if they are longer term goals then I'd argue to the school that that is essentially for them the same as another child getting a passing grade which means that they should be able to be in the sports team.

  5. if they have what george lopez has yes but if there like a kid with down syndrome no. and who ever says that george lopez cant play foot ball then the person could say discriminatingteing my people. and why dont they kick the kid down down syndromedrome who is slowing the class down.
