Childrens play/story about a ballerina, clown and a soldier?

When I was in primary school I remember a play/story about a clown that was in love with a ballerina, but she loved a soldier. There were songs in the story too, does anyone know this story? Many thanks

Yes, as above, The Nutcracker.  

Tchaikovsky wrote the ballet based on "The Nutcracker and Mouse King" story and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is one of the famous pieces from it.

Many schools perform it as a Christmas play.
