  1. I hope they work, Im planning on using one for my son.  When do you start using them?

  2. We used a reward chart to encourage our daughter to stay in her own bed, if she did she could  choose her sticker and put on chart, if she completed a whole week she could choose a present from the £1.00 shop. we did this for about 2moths and it did work this was when she was three and she is now eleven. I have three daughters and I have used reward charts with them too one to get rid of a dummy and the other to stop sucking a thumb, all have worked for me.  We made our own chart and the girls decorated it themselves and made it special to them, every Sunday we printed and made a new one for the Monday morning, I think this helped with the process.  Good luck.

  3. I've looked at the chart and it looks good but I really think that it is more effective if you make a chart with your child. I usually let them cut up the argos catalogue and stick on pictures and maybe choose together what targets you are going to put on and what rewards the stars will work toward.

  4. I taught at a preschool for about 6 years and we used reward charts for everything, and I used them with my own kids to get them to do things that always required a struggle. It worked very well both at home and in preschool, but all kids respond differently to different things. The best thing you can do is give it a shot, and if it doesn't work, move on to your next plan of action.

  5. My sister has a similar chart for home work and chores for her 7 year old son.

She bought star stickers and every day if he does all his chores for that day he gets a sticker and if he gets 5 stickers that week he gets $5

For the home work If he does it with out arguing he gets a sticker and if he gets all home work stickers he gets to pick what he wants for breakfast on Saturday(pancakes or eggs).

  6. I have twin 4 1/2 year old girls and we use a reward system and it works, though I dont use a chart. I went out and bought two jars (one for each girl) and some beans. Each day we put a scoop in or take a scoop out, or sometimes both. And when the jar gets full they have a list of things they can pick from to do like go out to dinner, get a new toy, have a movie night with popcorn, a day out with just mommy, go get ice cream etc.

  7. They work extremely well with both my kids (2 &7) but you can make one just as easily and cheaply. I have bought character ones in the past too tho!

  8. Yep it worked perfect for my children my child is 2 and a half and every time he does something good he gets a dollar (I keep it though) and when he get's five dollars and we go to the grocie store and he picks out some candy chips etc.

  9. i have tried it with my 2 year old, and he doesn't quite understand the concept yet, so i think it depends on the age of the child.

  10. They can be really useful tools but can also create problems when rewards are withdrawn for bad behaviour.

Rather than waste money, try making one with your child and letting them decorate it. Use shiny star stickers for good behaviour and give them a reward after a certain number of stars are reached. Review the chart every day before bed. Try to give one reward a day for a good behaviour you want to encourage and then tell them they could have had another but they lost it through bad behaviour. This might encourage better responses than taking the reward away as they know that they can still get the reward but it will take longer. Try to keep the rewards realistic and regular so they don't lose hope (e.g a sweet treat for every 10 stars instead of a playstation for 100 stars!).

  11. After watching super nanny i did try a reward chart and i found that it was even harder for them to do as they where told because it was them bribing me most of the time and if i took a reward of them for being naughty that caused more trouble then without the chart.

  12. Yes they do work though why would you buy one when you can make your own?
