I have a 6 month old child. Her biological father is on SSI. To me, hes just lazy.. hes not disbaled. He claims to be bi-polar and ADHD. He gets a check each month from SSI. I cant get child support because its a form of "public assistance". Some people have told me that I can get a check for my daughter from SSI... but when I called Social Security, they said I cant UNLESS the CHILD is disabled. Is this true? I mean, is there no way of me ever having any financial support for her? I dont see how people can just go out and make babies and never have to pay for them... there has to be some way for me to get some help?

  1. I have a cousin thats father was on SSDI and her mother received monthly payments, just like child support. He was totally and permanently disabled, so maybe that is the difference? Im not sure, but if I were you I would do more research. Like you said, there has to be some sort of help.

  2. Your BABY'S DADDY may be able to get a check for your daughter, but you can't.  It's called a "Dependent Stipend" or something like that.  The only way he can get it is if his name is on the birth certificate.  He has to provide social security with your child's birth certificate.  Why not have him give them a call?

In the meanwhile, perhaps you could ask your baby's daddy to buy things your baby needs, such as diapers and wipes and baby food?  He may not be able to give you cash, but at least he can help with some of the baby's needs.

BTW, ADHD and Bi-polar disorder are real diseases.  You may think he's just lazy, but obviously his doctor and psychiatriast doesn't feel the same.  Don't be so quick to judge.

  3. you slept with the bum, get yourself a job and drop the loser

  4. I do believe you could receive a check like child support fromm ssi and it doesn't effect his check. Years ago we received one for my stepson (we had custody) but it was only $42 a month. It might be based on how much income the parent on ssi has made over the years. Or maybe its a set figure. It doesn't hurt to inquire.
