Question:

Chills, muscle aches after dosage of propofol?

I had an endoscopic ultrasound today around 4PM that required a 450mg dosage of propofol (anesthetic). When I woke up from the procedure I felt fine, and for 2-3 hours after. However, now I am experiencing muscle aches all over my body, and on-and-off chills. I don't think I have a fever, but the chills are pretty persistent as well as the muscle aches. None of this was mentioned to me when I was discharged... is this a normal reaction? I am assuming that it is just side-effect of such a large dose of propofol, but I just wanted to check. Thanks...

  1. do a web search for the side effects

  2. 450 mg of propofol (aka Milk of Amnesia) is a pretty big dose.

But, it's main advantage is that it is short acting, and quickly eliminated from your body so it is very unlikely a drug effect

It also doesn't sound like the side effects you MAY get from propofol, which are usually things like nausea, dizzyness, found in most of the anesthesia induction agents.  It is my favourite drug to put people out for short painful procedures like setting a broken bone or dislocation.

It sounds more like the flu.
