Question:

Chimney problem...what can i use to fill void between chimney and shingles?

if you take a look at the pictures i have you can see that wood trim is place between the house and the shingles to fill the void. is this standard practice or can i use something better to fill it?

  1. Wood trim is a pretty standard way to cover the gap.  Be sure the chimney is securely anchored to the house.  Use pressure treated or cedar, and fill the gap LOOSELY with fiberglass insulation or expanding foam (Great Stuff).  Prime the back side of the wood with a good quality primer, then install with concrete nails or screws (Tapcons).  Fill the heads of the screws or nails, prime, and paint to match.  Good luck.
