Chimp/Human Mating...Possible?

Not wanting to sound sick and twisted, but biologically/genetically is it possible to get an offspring as a result of Human/Chimp breeding just like a mule from a horse and a donkey?

  1. Not possible, or if a viable offspring resulted, it would probably die at an early age.

One reason for this is that humans have one fewer chromosome pair than chimpanzees or gorillas (46 instead of 48). Our chromosome 12 is the fusion of two chromosomes that we inherited from our common ancestor with chimpanzees, and the point where it's joined can still be seen in the DNA. This is only the most blatant difference, but there are a lot of traits that have evolved in different directions, and combining them will prevent a viable offspring.

In rare cases, humans are born with more chromosomes than normal, but this typically results in severe mental and physical handicaps.

  2. gross. lol. hope not. =]

  3. Yes it is possible scientifically. As it could not be experimented on moral values no progress has been made in this section But genetically and physically it is possible to have an offspring intermediate. Its experiment is not possible but in Africa some women tried it as they have a shortage of men so they tried to have s*x with chimpanzee family. They got various diseases like AIDS and they died in pregnancy But they got pregnant this indicates that their could be an offspring by this mating.

  4. It is not possible. Chimps and humans share a different chromosome number, and thusly, mating is impossible by natural means or unnatural means, to extents.

    God Bless.

  5. not possible

  6. yes...and no you see it is technically possible butthere are a few problems that go along with it. It was tried a long time ago with a female gorilla that was impregnated with Human male s***n but the pregnentcy never complete because the Gorilla died when crazed PETA people stormed the building and took the gorilla out of its misery. The gorillas child could have been born one of two ways. It could have had the strength of a gorilla and the mind of a human, or the mind of a gorilla and the strength of a human which would have been pointless. These kinds of mixes just dont occur naturall and they shouldnt.

  7. I don't know if it's possible, but I do know the different chromosome numbers of humans and chimps wouldn't necessarily prevent a viable offspring.  Eagle Lake rainbow trout are a subspecies of rainbow trout with 58 chromosomes rather than 60.  They can interbreed with other trout just fine.  As with humans and chimps, a single chromosome in the ELRT is equivalent to two fused chromosomes from other trout. During meiosis, the single chromosome simply lines up opposite both chromosomes to which it is equivalent.

  8. Mating is not probable due to the difference in chromosome numbers, however it is technically possible that conception could take place resulting in sterile offspring (much like a Liger: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liger).

There is strong evidence to suggest that there was some human-Chimpanzee interbreeding shortly after our two species diverged approximately 9 million years ago, however this was at a time when the dimorphism between us and chimps was not great.

There have been no verifiable cases of modern human-chimp hybrids, although in the early part of the 20th century a Russian scientist apparently attempted the experiment, but had no successfull conceptions.

Ii think this entire concept is best summed up with the old adage: Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

  9. Ever heard of mulatto?

  10. I dont actually know.but you can know it by identifying the no. of chromosomes present in the nucleus of the germ cell (s***n).

If two species have same no. of pair of chromosomes in the nucleii of their germ cells , and both species come from a common ancestor, it has some possibility.
