China Open, Wozniacki eyes World number 1 ranking
Currently the world number two, Caroline Wozniacki, is playing in the China Open tennis tournament being held in Beijing. The Danish veteran is now just one victory away to usurp the World number one rank from the American tennis ace and current World number
one Serena Williams.
In a very recent match the top seed for the tournament, Wozniacki outplayed her rival Sara Errani from Italy in her opening match. The twenty-year old brushed her rival away by 6-4 6-2 very convincingly in a two setter tennis battle.
By beating Sara Errani the Dane has now pushed herself even closer to the World number one rank. It is to be noticed that Wozniacki will surpass Serena if she hammers Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic in the top eight stages of the tournament. Her recent victory
has given her a very strong boost and currently she is showing no signs of bowing out.
It is also to be remembered that the Dane won the WTA’s (Women’s Tennis Association) fifth tennis title of the year in Tokyo previous week and if the twenty year old veteran reaches the top four stages after winning her next match on the 11th of October
of the ongoing China Open then she will definitely become the World number one.
After winning her match against the twenty-three year old Italian Sara Errani she expressed her thoughts pretty excitedly and told the media that she is enjoying the best playing form of her career and she will try her level best to keep the winning streak
alive.
When she was asked about her chances of clinching the world number one spot the Danish said that currently she is concentrating on her game and her focus is to keep her winning momentum alive. She added that winning a match is always good and she is happy
to participate at the China Open.
Caroline Wozniacki is very well aware of the negative and positive aspects of her game and her focus towards her game is truly remarkable and makes her one of the most dangerous players of the tennis world. When she was asked about her ambitions and aims
for the upcoming matches the Dane told the media that she will try to give her full in her next match as well as she is looking forward to clinch victory. She added that she is very hopeful and confident about her performance.
In the other important matches of the tournament the second seed, Russian Vera Zvonareva, also made her way through to the quarter finals of the tournament by beating her compatriot opponent Maria Kirilenko in a three setter stamina jolting match. The twenty-six
year old Russian kept her nerve remarkably well and showed some tremendous recovery in the third and resulting set of the match. The Russian ace Zvonareva won the match by 5-7 6-4 6-2.
In the men’s event of the China Open the current World number two, Serbian Novak Djokovic, had a walk over when his American rival, Mardy Fish, pulled out of the match because of an enduring ankle injury. The defending champion enjoyed a very safe passage
into the last eight stages of the tournament.
Whereas, on the other hand the fourth seed Russian, Nikolay Davydenko, cruised past his current World number fourteen from Croatia by 7-5 7-5 in a two setter match. The Russian veteran Davydenko will now face the American, John Isner, in his next match of
the tournament. It is to be notified that the twenty-five year old and current World number thirty-two John Isner thrashed past his rival, Philipp Kohlschreiber after a thrilling battle of tennis by 7-6 (7-3) 3-6 6-3. Elsewhere, the Swiss tennis player Simon
Gilles also qualified for the last eight stages of the tournament.
