China Open 2010 : Friday’s Preview
The 2010 ATP China Open men’s competition will highlight a total of four singles clashes on Friday which would star the last year’s winner, Novak Djokovic from Serbia as well as Robin Soderling, Andy Murray and Nikolay Davydenko
from Russia.
In the day's opening match, Novak Djokovic will take on Gilles Simon on the third occasion in Beijing. Earlier, Novak had triumphed in both of their previous clashes at the China Open. The twenty three year old Djokovic is taking
part in the quarters or better on the twelfth occasion in his fifteen championships this year.
This is his first competition since the United States Open last month. The Serbian, currently, enjoys a match record of 46-13 on the season. Apart from successfully making his way into the final at New York, Djokovic also assisted
Serbia in winning the semi final round of Davis Cup tie against Czech Republic with a four setter victory over Tomas Berdych. Novak is presently ranked number two in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals.
Gilles, on the other hand made his debut in Beijing this Monday with a three setter win over Sam Querrey. He enjoys a match record of 17-12 and is coming off his seventh career singles' crown at the Open de Moselle after getting
the better of Zverev in the title battle. He had also made his way into the quarters in Washington and Eastbourne, earlier this season.
Second up on the Lotus court will be the world number four, Andy Murray, who will meet Ivan Ljubicic. Murray leads the pair’s head to head encounter with a 3-2 but both of them have been able to capture an ATP World Tour Masters
1000 crown, this year. The thirty one year old Ivan is currently appearing in his fourth ATP World Tour quarter or better this season. He had previously made his way into the semi finals back in 2007 while quarters in 2006 as well as 2009 in Beijing. Ivan
enjoys a match record of 19-14. He won the biggest crown of his career this season back in March after beating Roddick at Indian Wells.
Meanwhile, Murray first clashed in Beijing on Tuesday with a two setter win over Paul Henri Mathieu, followed by his next round victory over Albert Montanes to confirm his quarter final berth. This is Andy’s first championship
since falling down in the round three at New York at the hands of Stanislas Wawrinka in a four setter clash last month. The Scott currently stands at 36-13 match record on the year.
In Friday's next clash on the Moon Court, Nikolay Davydenko will attempt for his third victory in as many encounters versus the big serving John Isner of America. The twenty nine year old Davydenko currently shares a match record
of 25-13 to Isner’s 33-19. He has reached the quarters or better in six ATP World Tour championships so far in 2010. Isner, on the other hand has a career mark of 3-11 versus the top ten players and his previous victory came against his compatriot, Andy Roddick
in the third round of the U.S. Open back in 2009.
In Friday's final match, the world number five Robin Soderling will face David Ferrer. Soderling leads the pair’s head to head encounter by 2-0. This will be their third clash of the year as they have previously met at Wimbledon
and Bastad. Robin is making his twelfth quarter or better appearance of the season in Bejing and will definitely try to reach his fifth ATP World Tour final, this year.
