China Open Premier Super Series: Jan O Jorgensen ousts Nguyen Tien Minh in Men’s Singles round-of-16
Denmark’s second seed Jan O Jorgensen has displayed remarkable performance as he defeated the higher ranked Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 in the 2011 China Open Premier Super Series, on Thursday, November 24, in Shanghai, China.
Jorgensen, who is currently World Number 18 in the Men’s Singles world rankings, stunned the World Number Seven Tien Minh and won the battle to secure a place in the quarter-final of the tournament. He took 53 minutes of top hard labour to win the match
against the Vietnamese in three games.
Tien Minh played superb game in the first half and won in a one-sided fashion. Nevertheless, the Danish fought back in the second set by winning it with a decent score. Jorgensen continued his killing performance in the final game and took it with a reasonable
margin.
In the first set of the game, the Danish played shaky badminton as he failed to match the speed of his higher ranked opponent in the whole set. Tien Minh delivered remarkable performance by controlling the pace of the game. Jorgensen committed numerous unforced
errors by playing wrong shots and lost the game with a margin of 13-21.
In the following set, the both shuttlers kept on snapping each other’s heel when they employed attacking strokes. Both started to play with aggression but no one could take a comfortable lead until the score reached at 13-13. At this stage, Jorgensen played
impressive game at the net and started to build the gap. He remained successful in taking the second set with a 21-15 score.
In the third set, right from the opening points, Jorgensen remained focused and played superb badminton to establish a reasonable lead. He remained ahead of his rival in the whole set despite the fact that Tien Minh employed every skill to stop the progressive
run of the Danish.
Jorgensen played flawless badminton in the concluding phase of the third game and finished it with a 21-16 score on the board. The Danish won the match in 53 minutes with a 13-21, 21-15 and 21-16 score.
In the quarter-final fight, Jorgensen will take on China’s Lin Dan, who thrashed Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki in the pre-quarter-final contest.
