China Open Premier Super Series: Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen land podium berth
Denmark’s in-form shuttlers, Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen have landed a podium berth after crushing Thailand’s Songphon Anugritayawon and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul in the Mixed Doubles semi-final of the 2011 China Open Premier Super Series,
in China, on Saturday, November 26.
The World Number Three couple of Joachim Fischer and Pedersen played to their full potential against the Thai opponents and won the match in straight games. The Danish shuttlers have not dropped even a single game in all matches in the China Open. They finished
the semi-final contest in the similar fashion by taking it in two games in just 34 minutes.
In the first set of the match, the Danish pair remained struggling in the opening half of the first game but recovered in the second half and took the game with a decent score. In the second game, the Danish couple showed no mercy to their opponents by playing
wonderful badminton and took the set without any trouble.
The first set started in a close way as both sides remained equal until 3-3. The Thai couple started to build momentum and remained ahead of their opponents until the end of the first half. The Danish duo failed to produce killing form and remained trailing
behind.
However, in the second half, Joachim Fischer and Pedersen played aggressive game with wonderful precision. They levelled the score and continued their winning run to take the first set with a three-point margin of 21-18. Thai duo failed to control the pace
of rallies in the ending points and lost the set.
In the second set of this interesting contest, Joachim Fischer and Pedersen set up an early lead by putting pressure on their opponents. Their fast net play and powerful smashes spared no chance for the Thai challenger and reached at 11-5 until the break.
The Danish duo remained on track after the interval and continued their impressive run. However, the Thai couple drew near by playing well and reaching at 12-13, when Joachim Fischer and Pedersen accelerated their speed and took the game with a wonderful
21-14 score. They won the battle with a margin of 21-18 and 21-14.
