China’s Kai Wen has penetrated into Men’s Singles main round after taming India’s Arvind Bhat at the second stage of the qualifying round of the 2011 Li Ning China Open Premier Super Series, on Tuesday, November 22, in Shanghai, China.
Wen has been playing superb badminton for the last one year and has elevated his level of play. He proved his mettle against Bhat, who has a plenty of experience of playing in international tournaments. The Indian completely failed to produce better game
against the spirited Chinese, who was enjoying the support of the huge home crowd.
The Chinese dictated the pace of the rallies and maintained a wonderful difference throughout the whole fight. He finished the qualifying-round contest in two games by working at his best for 42 minutes.
The opening set remained in the favour of the Chinese as he showed no respect for the Indian and won it with a good difference. In the second set, Bhat changed his strategy but again failed to dominate the game as Wen spared no room for him to place his
shots. The Chinese took the second game with a comfortable margin and won the match in straight sets.
Wen opened his campaign against Bhat in an aggressive and dominating way as he employed jumping smashes from the opening rallies in the first game. He was quicker in finishing off the points by missing no chance to bury the bird into his rival’s court.
The Chinese proved that he has achieved a higher level of skills as he played tremendous badminton against the Indian and won the set with an impressive 21-13 score on the board.
In the following set, Bhat played well in the opening points but gradually failed to continue at the same speed. Wen took over from him and established a good lead until the break. After the break, the Chinese extended his lead by playing fast and positive
badminton and won the battle with a 21-14 score.
The Chinese cheered the home fans with his wonderful performance as he sent Bhat packing by putting up an overall 21-13 and 21-14 score on the board.
