China Open Premier Super Series: Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong surge into Men’s Doubles final
Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong have proved their mettle as they have surged into Men’s Doubles final after beating Japan’s Naoki Kawamae and Shoji Sato in the semi-final of the 2011 Li-Ning China Open Premier Super Series, in Shanghai, on Saturday,
November 26.
Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong, who are World Number Four and fourth seeds in the Men’s Doubles draw of the championship, played flawless badminton against the Japanese pair and finished up the semi-final fight in straight games by consuming 39 minutes. Kawamae
and Sato failed to produce winning form against the higher ranked Koreans and lost without any substantial resistance.
The Koreans remained in wonderful control of the game throughout the opening set and bagged it with a remarkable margin. In the following set, the Japanese couple tried to put resistance by playing well but not enough to get rid of their rivals. Sung Hyun
and Yeon Seong ended the second game with a decent margin and won the match to reach in the final.
The opening rallies of the first game were fast when both sides played attacking badminton. However, the Koreans were in complete control of the game as they played with precision. Their impressive strokes from the rear-court area and domination at the net
helped them to put pressure on the Japanese pair.
The Koreans remained successful in taking a wonderful lead of 11-5 until the one-minute interval in the first half. They continued their superb performance in the second half of the game and showed no mercy to the Japanese challengers in the whole set and
won it by a huge difference of 21-12.
In the second set, Kawamae and Sato changed their tactics and played thrilling badminton to reach at 6-1. However, the Koreans started to play planned game and levelled the score by reaching at 6-6. The score progressed tightly until 16-16 when the Koreans
played aggressive strokes and remained successful in winning the second game with a 21-18 score.
Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong took the match in straight games with a 21-12 and 21-18 score by taking 39 minutes of the court time.
