China Open Premier Super Series: Lee Chong Wei slaughters Kenichi Tago in Men’s Singles round-of-16
Malaysia’s top seed Lee Chong Wei continues his killing performance in the event as he has crushed Japan’s Kenichi Tago in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 in the 2011 Li Ning China Open Premier Super Series, on Thursday, November 24, in China.
The 29-year-old Chong Wei, who is World Number One and top seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the China Open, proved his unmatched skills against the World Number 16 Tago and won the fight in straight games with an impressive margin. The Malaysian consumed
only 29 minutes in the court to throw away the Japanese in a completely one-sided straight-set contest.
In the opening game, Chong Wei established and maintained a wonderful lead and won the set with an incredible difference. In the second set, the Malaysian was floating in the court and entertained the local crowd with his incredible speed and skills. He
took the second game in a one-sided margin without facing any problem from his Japanese opponent.
In the start of the first game, both shuttlers played fast badminton in the opening rallies and reached at 2-2. Chong Wei started to employ his impressive strokes from the rear-court area and also utilised his incredible deceptive shots to maintain pressure
on Tago.
The Japanese failed to respond well against the impressive speed and power-play of Chong Wei and remained trailing miles behind the top seed in the first game. The Malaysian strolled easily and bagged the game with a superb margin of 21-9 in just 15 minutes.
In the second game of this pre-quarter-final contest, Chong Wei wasted no time as he established a remarkable lead in the opening points. He was flawless in the execution of his strokes as all of his shots went in the right areas. Tago was clearly lacking
the fighting spirit as he gave up in the second half of the second game.
Chong Wei continued his roller-coaster run in the match and finished up the second set with a fantastic margin of 21-7. This straight-set Men’s Singles round-of-16 contest ended in 29 minutes with a 21-9 and 21-7 score on the board.
In the quarter-final contest, Chong Wei will be up against another Japanese shuttler, Sho Sasaki, who defeated Spain’s Pablo Abian in the pre-quarter-final match.
