China Open Premier Super Series: Li Han ousts Lok Yan Poon to surge into Women’s Singles main round
The Chinese youngsters are catching up fast as they have narrowed the gap between top shuttlers from all over the world. China’s Li Han proved it as she put up phenomenal performance in her last Women’s Singles qualifying round battle against Hong Kong’s
Lok Yan Poon in the 2011 China Open Premier Super Series, in Shanghai, China, Tuesday, November 22.
The experience Hong Kong shuttler failed to stop the Chinese from winning the match. Li displayed her elevated skills and emerged as the winner against Lok Yan in straight games by spending 37 minutes in the court. Her impressive performance in the qualifying
round cheered the home crowd.
Li faced fluctuation in the first set when she lost the lead on two occasions, but finally took the set with a narrow margin. In the second game, she displayed quivering performance in the first half but recovered in the concluding phase of the second set
and won with the similar tight score.
The starting points of the first set were entertaining when both ladies grabbed the attention of the huge crowd by playing with aggression. But it was the Chinese who set up an early lead, which was covered by the Hong Kong shuttler later on.
However, in score reached at the concluding phase at 18-18 when Li played wonderful aggressive strokes and took the opening game with a margin of 21-19. Yan Poon failed to put up good show in the ending points and lost the set.
In the second set, Lok Yan employed her experience and remained successful in taking a comfortable lead in the first half by reaching at 11-7. Li became a little relaxed in the opening half which helped the Hong Kong shuttler to dominate the rallies.
In the second half, the Chinese geared up her speed and levelled the score at 11-11. The score progressed in the similar tight way until 19-19 when Li played with wonderful precision and scored two consecutive points to bag the set with a 21-19 margin. The
Chinese took the match with a 21-19 and 21-19 score by consuming 37 minutes in the court.
