China Open Premier Super Series: Pablo Abian advances into Men’s Singles second round
Spain’s top seed Pablo Abian advances into second round as he has found a remarkable start in the first round when he stunned higher ranked Marc Zwiebler of Germany in the 2011 China Open Premier Super Series, in Shanghai, on Wednesday, November 23.
Abian, who is World Number 23, displayed impressive performance in the first encounter of the China Open, which indicates that he is determined to beat the higher ranked shuttlers and get into the top 15 shuttlers by the end of the current month. He took
51 minutes to beat the World Number 17 Zwiebler in a well-fought three-set match.
The German found a perfect start in the match as he took no time in finishing up the opening set with a striking margin. However, the Spanish bounced back in the second game and won it with a good score. In the final set, Abian showed his incredible skills
and thrashed the German in a completely dominating style.
Zwiebler started the opening set in an authoritative manner as he played with precision. He made his challenger moving around in the court by playing with superb variations. Abian failed to cope up with the perfect play and incredible speed of his rival
and lost the first set with a margin of 11-21.
In the following set, Abian lifted up his level and played a different game to tackle the variations of his opponent. He was quicker in the front area of the court and refused Zwiebler to score points at the net.
The planned and aggressive approach of Abian created and maintained pressure on Zwiebler in the whole game. Abian won the set with a 21-15 score and levelled the match.
In the decider, Abian displayed stunning performance by playing an attacking badminton and pushed his opponent on the back foot. He continued his roller-coaster progress in the final set as his rival failed to play at this speed.
Abian found no trouble at all from Zwiebler in the whole final set and bagged it with an unbelievable 21-8 score on the board. The ending result of this opening-round fight was 11-21, 21-15 and 21-8.
