China Open Premier Super Series: Peter Hoeg Gade digs deep to beat Shon Wan Ho in first round
Denmark’s ace veteran shuttler, Peter Hoeg Gade had to dig deep into his reserves to get rid of Korea’s Shon Wan Ho in the Men’s Singles first round of the 2011 Li Ning China Open Premier Super Series, on Wednesday, November 23, at Shanghai, China.
Despite being 34 years old, Peter Gade shows no sign of giving up as he has been playing remarkable badminton in the current year. In the opening encounter in China Masters, he worked extra hard to beat Wan Ho in a three-set fight of 82 minutes. With this
victory he continues his supremacy over the Korean as he is leading the head-to-head stats with a one-sided lead of 6-0.
The fourth seed Danish played with his usual impressive style in the first game of the match and took it easily. However, Wan Ho played a different game in the second set of the match and won it to level the score. In the deciding game of the match, the
Danish remained successful in taking the set with a dramatically narrow margin.
The opening set started in an expected way as Peter Gade took no time in setting up a good lead in the first half. However, the Korean covered the lead and drew near at 10-11 until the break. After the interval, Peter Gade accelerated his speed and dictated
the bird in all corners with a wonderful control. He bagged the first game of this fight with a 21-13 score.
In the following set, it was the Korean who reached at 11-10 until the break. The score progressed closely in the second half until 20-20. At this crucial stage, Peter Gade failed to take the ending points and lost the set with a tight 20-22 margin.
In the final set, the Danish remained ahead of his opponent in the whole game until the ending points. The Korean remained trailing in the whole set but put extra effort to level the score by reaching at 20-20.
At this breath-taking stage, Peter Gade employed his experience and finished up the game with a 22-20 score. The overall score of this 82-minute match was 21-13, 20-22 and 22-20.
