China Open Premier Super Series: R.M.V Gurusaidutt advances in the Men’s Singles qualifying round
India’s emerging young and talented shuttler, R.M.V. Gurusaidutt have made his mark over Malaysia’s veteran shuttler Wong Choong Hann in the Men’s Singles qualifying round of the 2011 China Open Premier Super Series, in China, on Tuesday, November 22.
The Indian had to dig deep to get rid of the experienced Malaysian in a mouth-watering three-set fight that took 52 minutes of attacking badminton from both sides. The World Number 51 Gurusaidutt delivered phenomenal performance in the final set and bagged it with a convincing margin.
By winning this fight, Gurusaidutt took revenge of their previous meeting in the 2011 Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold, when the Malaysian emerged as the winner
The opening game was absolutely thrilling as both shuttlers remained close until the end when the Indian remained successful in winning it with a tight score. However, Choong Hann showed his class in the second set and levelled the match by taking it with a narrow margin. In the deciding game, Gurusaidutt remained trailing in the first half but played incredible badminton in the second half and won the game.
Right from the start of the opening game, both shuttlers played well by keeping the pace at the maximum level. Choong Hann managed to take small lead and maintained it until the interval in the first half of the game. He was leading the first with four-point margin by reaching at 16-21 when Gurusaidutt played incredible badminton and scored eight consecutive points to reach at 20-16.
 However, the Malaysian levelled the score but failed to play positively in the ending points. The Indian remained calm and positive and took the game with a dramatic score of 22-20.
In the following set, the Indian established a superb lead of 14-5 when the Malaysian fighter bounced back in the game and levelled the score by reaching at 19-19. The Indian lost his focus and lost the game with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the final game, Choong Hann remained in complete control of the rallies and remained ahead in the first part. The Indian accelerated his speed and levelled the score at 13-13. At this stage the Malaysian failed to find event a single point as Gurusaidutt took eight successive points to finish off the set with a 21-13 margin. The final score of this thrilling fight was 22-20, 19-21 and 21-13.
