China Open Premier Super Series: Wenlong Zhou powers his way into Men’s Singles main round
China’s young shuttler Wenlong Zhou has powered his way into Men’s Singles main round after crushing Denmark’s Joachim Persson in the qualifying round of the 2011 China Open Super Series, on Tuesday, November 22, in China.
The un-seeded Chinese shuttler proved his worth by playing remarkable badminton and made his mark over the experienced Danish opponent in an impressive style. Wenlong played fast and positive game in the whole match and emerged as the winner in three games
by taking 56 minutes in the court.
The young Chinese played terrific game in the opening set of the match and took an advantage by winning it. However, he played good game in the second set and but made a few crucial mistakes and eventually lost the set with a tight margin. In the final set,
Wenlong put up wonderful show in front of his home crowd and took the game with a one-sided margin.
Wenlong started his campaign against the Danish in a wonderful manner as he remained in complete control of the rallies. Persson also played positive game and the score remained tight until the break in the opening half. However, the Chinese continued his
impressive run in the second set of the match and finished it up with a margin of 21-16.
The second game was an absolute thrill as both shuttlers played with aggression and precision. Wenlong was executing powerful smashes while, his opponent was relying on net play. The score remained tight until the concluding phase of the second set when
the Chinese committed a crucial error and lost the game with a close 20-22 score.
The final set was unbelievable for the Danish as the local shuttler showed his superb skills. Wenlong started the final game with an aggressive approach and spared no room for the Danish to take advantage. Persson failed to execute his powerful smashes as
he lost his momentum in the game.
The wonderful performance of the Chinese youngster throughout the final game helped him in earning the set with a superb 21-10 score on the board. The final score of this superb qualifying round match was 21-16, 20-22 and 21-10.
