China Open Premier Super Series: Yi Lu ends the journey of R.M.V. Gurusaidutt in qualifying round
China’s spirited young player, Yi Yu has displayed a stunning performance as he has ended the journey of R.M.V. Gurusaidutt in the Men’s Singles qualifying round of the 2011 China Open Premier Super Series, at Shanghai, China, on Tuesday, November 22.
Yi cheered the home crowd with his impressive performance against Gurusaidutt, who is currently ranked at number 51 in the Men’s Singles world rankings. The Chinese worked really hard to beat the Indian in three games by taking 75 minutes in the court. Gurusaidutt
failed to get rid of the un-seeded Chinese opponents and lost the game closely.
In the first set of the match, the Indian played wonderful game and took the set with a good margin. However, Yi bounced back in a wonderful style and took the second set to level the match. In the final game, both shuttlers engaged the crowd as they progressed
closely until the ending points, when the Chinese remained lucky in taking the game with a tight score.
Yi played confused badminton in the opening set of the match as he failed to find momentum against the in-form Indian. Gurusaidutt maintained pressure on the Chinese challenger in the whole game. Yi tried to play fast game but lost his control over the bird
and lost the game with a 13-21 score.
In the following set, Yi played with a different plan as he moved fast in the court and executed attacking strokes to push the Indian in a defensive position. Yi continued his impressive play in this set of the match and finished it up with a margin of 21-16.
The match grew into a nail-biting fight in the deciding game of the match when both shuttlers played at their best. Gurusaidutt was relying on the perfect drives while, the Chinese was executing powerful smashes to bury the bird into his opponent’s court
The score reached at the climax when both players remained equal in the ending points. Nevertheless, Yi remained composed and played smart game in the end and won the set with a tight score of 23-21. This qualifying-round contest ended up in three games
by a 13-21, 21-16 and 23-21 score on the board.
